» About the Fanlisting
The first time I was introduced to the works of Orson Scott Card was when we had to read "Ender's Game" for English in the ninth grade. Even though it was Sci-Fi and very descriptive of violence and such, I was hooked. Even though our teacher said not to read ahead, I couldn't help it and I finished the book in a matter of days. I wasn't the only one, practically everyone in our grade was hooked and a lot of people went out and bought the sequels and what-not. The only following book I read was "Speaker for the Dead" which was also very skillfully written. I checked
TFL.org after joining a fanlisting for "Ender's Game" and found that it was open so I applied.
I came up with the name "Futuristic" after thinking about how Orson Scott Card uses such descriptive detail about futuristic devices. "Ender's Game" was written in the 70's and yet it talks about computers and spacestations, spaceshuttles, what it's like to walk without gravity, etc. It's amazing that at the time the book was written, hardly any of these things were accomplished and if they were, just barely. So his books are very futuristic, hence, the name.
